womynism sacred circle: How it all started

Womynism Sacred Circle

My work as a sex therapist came from my desire to create a pathway that honors the sacred relationship between our sexuality and our spirituality. For me, erotic wholeness is honored as a birthright, and liberation is embodied through somatic, spiritual, and ancestral healing practices that affirm our humanity, our joy, and our pleasure.

After 23 years of being a trauma-responsive integrative somatic psychotherapist, an embodied wellness coach, and almost 10 of those years as a clinical somatic sexologist, I created an embodied liberation healing path, Healing the Erotic Self. From my years in both my personal healing practices & my professional practices, I was frustrated to only be " Other Considerations" in academia and its literature as a Black woman or in community spaces as a spiritual queer person without a seemingly accessible or liberating path to develop routines, strategies, or coaching with healing practices that affirmed me nor my clients' WHOLE-Self ancestrally, somatically, culturally, sexually, energetically, and spiritually--our erotic wholeness.

So, first, I became SistaSexologist and created SistaSexologist.com, then created and curated Womynism Sacred Circle.

As a Sexual Healing Retreat:

First held in 2017, Womynism Sacred Circle was curated as an integrative, trauma-responsive, narrative-centered, and body-affirming experience centering the erotic and sexual healing centering Black women and Black non-binary folks.  Curated by a clinical somatic sexologist and embodied wellness coach by me, Womynism Sacred Circle, a community event centering Black women and non-binary folks, is a sexual healing retreat designed to support the development of embodied safety, dissolving sexual anxiety and shame, and improving the ability to be erotically present in the pursuit of sexual healing, sexual pleasure, and sexual liberation.  The first speakers of WSC included award-winning sex educators Ericka Hart and Dr. Zelaika Hepworth-Clark.

As a Healing Community:

Womynism Sacred Circle began as a response to creating a sacred space for sexual healing for queer and non-queer Black women and non-binary folks. Then expanded to welcome others of the Global Majority who are erotically marginalized.

WSC centered the erospiritual narrative of queer and non-queer Black sexuality and the reclamation sexual pleasure through the reframing of their trauma narrative and replacing trauma response to sexual and emotional intimacy and pleasure.  WSC stressed the importance of our spiritual and sexual well-being. The retreat was tailored with somatic healing arts & erotic care practices and activities to engage all 6 senses to assist participants in reclaiming their narrative through decolonization of messages she learned about sexuality, personhood, gender expression and gender performance for the pursuit and attainment of emotional wellness and sexual liberation.

Then it evolved and expanded into an erotic liberation movement, Healing the Erotic Self and its online healing space, Erospirituality Centre, Inc.

I hope you join me in this erotic liberation movement as we are centering ourselves.
